With the countdown to the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) now in full swing, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has kicked off its final round of host country inspections and operational workshops across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The first leg of the mission was in Nairobi, where CAF officials toured key venues, starting with the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. The 50,000-seat stadium, recently upgraded, will host Group A fixtures and the tournament final on August 30, 2025.
On Saturday, the delegation continued to Nyayo National Stadium for further inspection. These visits mark the final technical checks ahead of CHAN 2024, which is now just weeks away.
Alongside the stadium tours, CAF also conducted a series of detailed workshops with Local Organizing Committee (LOC) officials. The sessions covered essential areas like broadcast operations, safety and security, transport logistics, and team services—key elements that will shape the experience for teams, fans, and viewers across the continent.
Chairman of Kenya’s LOC, Nicholas Musonye, expressed satisfaction with how preparations are progressing.
“We’ve been working day and night to ensure everything is ready. We’re following CAF’s guidelines to the letter and keeping to the timelines. I want to thank the Government for its support, especially with funding and fast approvals,” Musonye said.
The Kenyan Government also reaffirmed its full backing for the tournament. Representing the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, was Mr. Evans Achoki from the Ministry of Sports, who underlined the country’s commitment.
“The Government has worked closely with the LOC to make sure everything runs smoothly. We’re determined to host a CHAN tournament that will be remembered across Africa and beyond. Kenya is ready.”
CAF’s inspection team will continue their regional tour with site visits to Dar es Salaam, Kampala, and Zanzibar, as East Africa gets set to host one of the biggest football tournaments on the continent.
