The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that 19 political parties will participate in the forthcoming bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, Dr Adeniran Tella made this declaration while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
DAILY POST reports that INEC has fixed Saturday, 16th August, 2025 as the date for the bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
The election became necessary owing to the death of the last occupant of the seat, Hon Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi.
Akinremi died in July last year.
Tella, while addressing the gathering, noted that 19 political parties have indicated interest to participate in the election.
He emphasized the commission’s commitment to conducting a credible and peaceful election.
“The commission has received some non-sensitive election materials and expects the remaining items, including sensitive materials, to arrive ahead of the poll.
“A total of 19 political parties are expected to participate in the bye-election.
“The success of this bye-election rests on our collective commitment to fairness, transparency, and inclusivity. Let us make this a model for future elections,” he said.
