Al-Ittihad defender Ashleigh Plumptre has shared the first reactions of her Super Falcons teammates during her maiden camp with Nigeria’s women’s national team.

Plumptre, 27, earned more than 25 caps for England’s Young Lionesses in the past.

She was provisionally cap-tied to her country of birth, England, before FIFA approved her request to change allegiance to Nigeria a few years ago.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, subsequently recruited Plumptre in 2021 after it emerged she was eligible to play for the Super Falcons through her paternal grandfather.

However, speaking recently with Lagos Talks 91.3, the former Leicester City star opened up about her first experience with the Super Falcons, revealing how her teammates reacted.

“I do remember my first session [with the Super Falcons] because I went for a header against a player called Desire,” Plumptre told Lagos Talks 91.3.

“Everybody didn’t really know what to expect from me at first. I think for them it was a rarity.

“They were obviously questioning like, ‘So, how are you Nigerian?’.

“Normally when I get that question, I just show them a picture of my dad, and they are like, ‘Oh, okay.’”
