Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia says an attack on police is an attack on the state.

Cachalia says police will not rest until Jabulani Moyo is arrested for allegedly killing two police officers.

The two officers were transporting Moyo, an awaiting trial prisoner from the Roodepoort Magistrate’s court to prison when they were ambushed in the Roodepoort CBD yesterday.

Their service pistols were stolen and Moyo was seen driving off in the officer’s unmarked vehicle, which was later found abandoned a few kilometres from the crime scene.

A multidisciplinary team has been deployed to hunt down Moyo.

The public is urged to provide police with any information that can lead to Moyo’s arrest.

National Police Ministry spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi said the Acting Minister of Police conveyed the Ministry’s sympathies to the families.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen detectives. Their sacrifice in the line of duty is a stark reminder of the daily dangers faced by our police officers as they work to uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of all South Africans. We owe them – and every officer who puts on the blue uniform – a debt of gratitude that words alone cannot fully express. We condemn this brazen act of violence in the strongest possible terms. We will not rest until Jabulani Moyo is behind bars.”
