Veteran politician and former Trade and Industry Minister Amelia Kyambadde has declared her return to active politics, announcing her intention to reclaim the Mawokota North parliamentary seat.

Kyambadde expressed deep dissatisfaction with the performance of her successor, Hillary Kiyaga popularly known as Dr. Hilderman arguing that he has failed to adequately serve the constituency.

Kyambadde, who has secured nomination for the NRM party primaries, said she initially had confidence in the musician-turned-politician, especially given their past collaboration.

In 2011, Hilderman composed the campaign song “Amelia,” which played a key role in her successful bid for Parliament. However, Kyambadde now says that trust has been misplaced.

“I am returning to Parliament because my successor, Hilderman, has not served the people of Mawokota North well,I want to bring energy and meaningful development back to the constituency. Unfortunately, his contribution has largely been limited to entertainment he performs at events and then leaves, with little else to show.”Kyambadde stated.

Kyambadde previously served as Mawokota North’s MP from 2011 to 2016 and has been a key figure in Ugandan politics since the 1970s. During her time in office, she was praised for initiating projects that improved the socio-economic wellbeing of her constituents.

Many residents believe that progress in the area stalled after her departure from Parliament, and some are optimistic that her return could revive stalled development efforts.

With her renewed ambition and long-standing political experience, Kyambadde is expected to mount a formidable challenge to Dr. Hilderman in the upcoming election.
