AfroBasket 2025: D’Tigress’ Okonkwo scoops Participant of the Event award

D’Tigress star, Amy Okonkwo has been named Most Valuable Player, MVP, at the just concluded 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, DAILY POST reports.

Okonkwo was instrumental in Nigeria’s successful outing at the competition.

Rena Wakama’s side defeated Mali 78-64 in the final of the competition at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan , Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday night.

It was D’Tigress’ fifth consecutive title, and the seventh time they will be lifting the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket trophy.

DAILY POST recalls, Okonkwo also won the MVP award at the previous edition of the competition hosted by Rwanda.

The 28-year-old is the second Nigerian to win back-to-back MVP honours at Women’s AfroBasket following Mfon Udoka’s in 2003 and 2005.
