The committee monitoring the mandatory monthly sanitation exercise across Adamawa State said it arrested more than 40 people on Saturday for contravening the spirit of the exercise.
The sanitation exercise, which takes place every last Saturday of the month, was observed on Saturday morning.
The Adamawa State Monthly Sanitation Committee, while reviewing the exercise with newsmen, said the defaulters would be prosecuted according to the law guiding the exercise.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Syngana Dadah, said the culprits were apprehended mostly for defying the 7–10 am closure of business activities for the exercise.
She stated that at Wuro-Kuturu by Jimeta By-pass, Yola, the committee met charcoal sellers and confiscated their bags of charcoal for selling to the public when they should have been cleaning up their residences or business premises.
She gave the names of other places visited within the Yola North LGA as Luggere, Hospital Road, Nasarawo, and Doubeli, among others.
She said her ministry would continue to create awareness about the monthly sanitation exercise.
