Political party ActionSA has lodged a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission against Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie for alleged racist remarks, including apartheid-era slurs.
The party says it is also prepared to take the matter to the Equality Court. This comes after old social media posts by the Minister, dating as far back as 2013, using the K-word to describe black people resurfaced online.
In his posts, the Minister used the derogatory word multiple times and even defended his language, calling it “purely descriptive”.
ActionSA has also reported Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson to Parliament’s Ethics Committee for allegedly calling its supporters “amaphara” and “hobos.”
The party says racism from anyone, particularly Cabinet Ministers, has no place in the country.
🚫 Racism and the dehumanisation of any person have no place in South Africa!
