The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council, has expressed concern on the resurgence of insecurity in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi axis of Abia State, urging the joint anti-security crime fighting outfit, Operation Crush, to  sustain the fight  against the hoodlums perpetrating insecurity.

The journalists who stated this at NUJ Secretariat in Umuahia during the June Congress,  urged the State government to commence the enforcement of Abia State anti-grazing law to address the menace of farm destruction by herdsmen.

The  communique signed by Chairman of NUJ Abia State, Chidi Asonye and the Secretary, Iyke Onuegbu, observed that herdsmen and their cows have been reported to destroy crops in people’s farms and also roam the major streets in the capital city of Umuahia.

The NUJ Congress  while commending  Governor Alex Otti for the feat his administration  has so far achieved in the security ecosystem through Operation Crush and the collaboration that saw it rid Isuikwuato and Umunneochi axis of bandits and kidnappers, said that  onslaught against every form of  criminality in the State should be sustained.

They called  on Traditional rulers, Village Heads and Presidents-General of Town Unions in the State to assist the government in this regard by setting up vigilante groups in their various communities and owning up their territories.

The NUJ  Congress further appealed  to the Abia State government to expedite action in concluding the 2022 and 2023 Civil Service promotion examinations so that successful workers can begin to enjoy their promotions and the financial benefits, pointing out that it may be demoralizing for a promotion exercise to drag for two to three years.
