Four people have died and thirteen others were injured in a fatal road accident that occurred at approximately 6:40 AM at Amungura Bridge along the Busia–Tororo Road.

According to preliminary investigations, the driver of motor vehicle registration number UA 889AM was reportedly speeding when he struck and killed a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, hit the bridge barrier, and plunged into River Malaba.

Three passengers died on the spot, bringing the death toll to four, including the pedestrian. Thirteen others, including the driver, sustained injuries and were rushed to Tororo Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

The vehicle involved has since been towed to Busia Police Station as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.

Authorities are urging all road users to observe speed limits and give right of way to pedestrians, especially in high-traffic zones, to avoid similar tragedies.
