Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the Fort Hare University’s Vice- Chancellor Prof Sakhele Buhlungu’s bodyguards.
They are expected to appear in the Alice Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape today.
Mboneli Vesele was shot and killed inside a vehicle while waiting for the vice-chancellor outside his home in January 2023.
National Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the two hitmen were apprehended in Zakariyya Park in Johannesburg.
Mathe says, “Two of the three hitmen were arrested. The total number of suspects arrested in relation to the Fort Hare murders are now 12. Ten others were arrested since 2023, with some still in police custody. Members of the public played a significant role in assisting the work of the police in apprehending wanted suspects. We thank all stakeholders.”
