Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai have killed two suspected Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, fighters who were attempting to plant Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, along a major highway in Borno State.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the ambush was executed following credible intelligence about insurgent activity along the Trans-Timbuktu corridor, close to the Katarko–Goniri axis.

The operation reportedly took place in the early hours of Monday, June 30.

The troops reportedly engaged the insurgents in a brief firefight, killing two militants while others fled the scene.

Items recovered included two AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, a motorcycle, and materials used in constructing IEDs. Tools designed to cut through tarred roads for the concealment of explosives were also found.

“This swift and precise operation helped prevent what could have been a deadly attack on both military personnel and civilian commuters,” a security source said.

In the aftermath, the military intensified patrols and route clearance operations in the area to deter further attempts by insurgent groups.
