African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has disputed accusations that the party is using the National Dialogue to try to retain power.

Mbalula was speaking on the sidelines of the OR Tambo Regional Conference in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape yesterday.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has withdrawn from the dialogue in protest at the treatment it says it has received from President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The DA says Ramaphosa fired a deputy minister from their party but continues to protect corrupt ANC cabinet ministers.

It says it is also considering a motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa, but Mbalula says the ANC will not tolerate the DA’s threats.

He says, “There is no such a thing, the National Dialogue was proposed by civil society which we supported. There is no such thing as using the National Dialogue to capture the people.”

“It is a South African thing. It is led by government working with all other civil society organisations, hence we support. There is no ANC that is leading the National Dialogue. It’s a false pronunciation that has been made by the DA of which this dialogue is about the interest of the people of South Africa,” adds Mbalula.
