A 55-year-old man from Babangida, Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, has attacked and macheted his 40-year-old wife to death for an unknown reason and fled to an unknown destination.

Yobe State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday, assuring that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect, identified as Hamidu Ali.

“On June 28, 2025, at about 11 am, Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from inhabitants of Koriyel Village, Babangida Tarmuwa LGA, indicating that Hamidu Ali, 55, attacked and macheted his wife, 40, to death for unknown reasons and fled.

“Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect”, the command said.

In a related development, the Yobe State Police Command said its operatives have arrested two suspects over alleged homicide and vandalism, while one suspect remains at large.

“On June 27, 2025, at about 5 pm, operatives of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended Musa Sule, 25, and Muntari Suleman, 30, of Ngalda Town, Fika LGA, for the brutal killing of a victim over alleged theft of a cellphone and power bank.

“The suspects have confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing at the State CID for subsequent prosecution,” said the police command.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, in the statement, urged communities to respect the rule of law and report any grievances to the appropriate authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.

“We appeal to the good people of Yobe State to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts and support law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order in their communities,” he said.

CP Ado warned against the arbitrary use of illegitimate means in the guise of seeking justice.
