An elderly pensioner has been hacked to death, allegedly by her 40-year-old son, at Sebora village outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

The 87-year-old victim had been dismembered.

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says they discovered body parts that were put inside three plastic containers as well as a hacksaw and knives, allegedly used in the commission of the crime.

“The suspect who is the son of the deceased was arrested immediately after he could not give satisfactory explanation of the gruesome act. The motive behind this senseless murder is currently being investigated by the police. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the heinous incident. She pointed out that the suspect was expected to provide protection to her mother instead of prematurely cutting her life short.”
