Don’t distract President Tinubu with 2027 politicking – Osun APC chieftain tells politicians

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on political leaders to refrain from distracting President Bola Tinubu with talks about the 2027 presidential elections.

Oyintiloye who made the appeal while addressing journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, urged politicians to focus on supporting the President in tackling critical national issues.

According to Oyintiloye, President Tinubu inherited a troubled economy marked by high debt levels, an unstable Naira, and an unsustainable fuel subsidy regime when he assumed office in 2023.

“Through his technocratic background, halfway through his administration, he had rekindled a ray of hope that many Nigerians seemed to have given up on,” Oyintiloye said.

He noted that key reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of multiple exchange rates were beginning to yield tangible results for the country.

The former lawmaker expressed concern over the premature political maneuvering by some individuals, warning that such actions could impede the President’s efforts in addressing national challenges.

He lamented that, “Some people are already jostling to be Vice President. The President is facing serious tasks to keep the economy healthy, defeat the evil of insurgency, and fix critical infrastructures.”

He criticised those he referred to as political opportunists for making unnecessary noise that could hinder the government’s developmental agenda.

“It is becoming nauseating, to say the least. The 2027 election is still over a year and a half away, and yet those chasing positions won’t allow the President to work,” he stated.

Oyintiloye stressed that the current administration was only two years into its term and urged political actors to exercise restraint and patience.

Insisting that the focus should remain on governance rather than political scheming, he said, “There are many pressing national matters that the President is attending to at the moment.

“What the President needs at this point in time is our collective support, prayers, solidarity, and not unnecessary clamour for power struggle ahead of 2027.”
