Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralized a suspected bandit and recovered weapons and other items in Taraba state.

The feat, according to the release made available to journalists in Jalingo, on Saturday by the Brigade Acting spokesman, Captain Olubodunde Oni, was achieved during a clearance operation in Ussa local government council of Taraba State.

The operation, conducted on Friday, followed credible intelligence about the movement of suspected bandits in the area, which they said made soldiers deployed from Kwesati to establish a tactical position along a suspected crossing route.

During the encounter, the troops were said to have engaged the criminals in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Military authorities said the bandits were forced to flee into the surrounding forest, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

One bandit was confirmed killed.
