The House of Representatives is set to deliberate on a proposal seeking the creation of Kurya Madaro Local Government Area in Zamfara State, to be carved out of the existing Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

A memorandum detailing the justification for the creation of the proposed council was submitted to Hon. Aminu Jaji, who represents Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, for onward transmission to the House Committee on Constitutional Amendment.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Jaji, who also chairs the House Committee on Ecological Fund, said the creation of the local government is long overdue and expressed optimism that the administration of President Bola Tinubu will support the move.

According to the lawmaker, the proposed local government has six wards, Kurya Madaro, Sakajiki, Banga, Kyambarawa, Kagara, and Dan Isah, with a combined population of over 400,000 residents. He added that the council headquarters is proposed to be located in Kasuwar Daji.

Jaji noted that several attempts have been made in the past 46 years to secure the creation of the local government, all of which were unsuccessful.

He argued that granting financial and administrative autonomy to local governments would ensure sustainable development and improve security in the area.

Also speaking, Abdullahi Majidadi, who led community stakeholders from the proposed Kurya Madaro LGA, said the demand aligns with the long-standing aspirations of the people.

He stressed that Kaura Namoda is one of the largest and most populated LGAs in Zamfara by landmass, making the creation of Kurya Madaro both necessary and justified. He added that residents of the area share common cultural values and live peacefully together.

Majidadi expressed hope that the present administration would give the proposal favourable consideration in line with its commitment to grassroots development and inclusive governance.
