More than 940 arrested during Operation Shanela in Joburg – SABC News

More than 940 suspects have been arrested for murder, car hijacking, business robbery and rape during a police operation in Jeppe and Cleveland areas in Johannesburg.

During the operation, Gauteng Traffic and Johannesburg Metro Police issued fines amounting to over 24,000 for road traffic offences as well as for contravention of by-laws.

Gauteng Police Spokesperson, Mavela Masondo says, “This operation was a build up to the launch of Operation Shanela Two. The operation is aimed at reducing serious and violent crimes that include murder, car (and) truck hijacking, dealing in drugs and the proliferation of illegal firearms.”
