Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom has revealed that he did not sleep for five days after receiving an eye-watering offer from a Saudi Pro League club.

The Ajax forward did not disclose the name of the club but recounted that the offer came in 2023, before his move from Middlesbrough to the Dutch side.

Akpom told LavieCutz on TikTok that, for five full days, he was consumed with thoughts about how to spend the money.

The player did not explain why the deal eventually fell through but insisted it was a significant opportunity for him.

Akpom has previously expressed his interest in representing Nigeria at senior level, having played for England at youth level.

The striker revealed that he and his girlfriend had already started drawing up a list of things to acquire with the large sum of money.

“Before I signed for Ajax, I had an offer from Saudi and I didn’t sleep for five days,” the former England youth team star said.

“I didn’t sleep for five days,” he reiterated. “I told my girlfriend while I was in bed trying to process it.”

Akpom, 29, was sent on loan to Lille during the second half of last season.

“You’re about to get a certain amount, but you don’t have it yet, but in your mind, you’re already spending it.

“My girlfriend and I were in Disneyland. We were thinking about the things we could get,” he recounted.

The striker still has three years remaining on his contract with Ajax.
