The Osun Amotekun Corps has denied allegations circulating on social media that its personnel charmed and assaulted one Olaore Taiwo in Iragbiji in the state.
Osun Amotekun in a statement signed by Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele and sent to DAILY POST by its Public Relations Officer, Idowu Yusuf Abass on Thursday, described the claims as entirely false, baseless, and misleading.
The corps added that Olaore was never arrested, harmed, or subjected to any mystical practices.
According to the statement, “We categorically state that no officer of the Osun Amotekun Corps charmed or assaulted Mr Olaore Taiwo at any time,”
“Mr Taiwo was only invited for questioning following a formal complaint regarding cyberbullying and defamatory content he had allegedly posted about the Corps online.”
Citing Section 24 of Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act, 2015, the statement said, “He was invited in response to unverified and damaging accusations against the Osun Amotekun Corps, including claims of extortion.”
The Corps confirmed that Taiwo responded to the invitation voluntarily and was treated professionally during the process, prompting his later transfer to the Police Headquarters in Osogbo for further Interrogation.
“At no point was he detained, assaulted, or subjected to any form of physical or mystical harm as falsely alleged,” the statement stated.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to lawful operations, claiming that the social media posts were part of an attempt by some individuals to discredit its work and erode public trust in its community-based security efforts.
“We are a law-abiding and apolitical organisation with a mandate to protect lives and property in Osun State.
“We urge members of the public to disregard these false narratives and refrain from sharing or endorsing unverified information that could jeopardise public safety. We encourage residents to report concerns through official channels.
“We appreciate the continued support of the good people of Osun State and assure them of our integrity and dedication,” the statement concluded.
