Insecurity: Kebbi govt to establish Army base in Zuru amid rising bandit attacks

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a Nigerian Army operational base in the Zuru Emirate, following renewed bandit attacks in parts of Kebbi South.

The announcement came during his condolence visits to Tadurga village in Zuru Local Government Area and Kyebu in Danko/Wasagu LGA, where recent attacks left several people dead and livestock stolen.

Governor Idris said the state had secured the deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, and other equipment from Abuja to strengthen security in the affected areas. He also directed the immediate provision of temporary accommodation for troops pending the construction of a permanent base.

He warned that informants aiding bandits would face severe punishment and disclosed plans to amend existing laws to prescribe death or life imprisonment for such offences.

Traditional rulers, including the Chief of Danko and the Emir of Zuru, urged the government to increase military presence, particularly along border routes used by attackers from neighbouring states.
