The Court of Appeal has upheld the 12-year and three-month prison sentence given to Godfrey Wamala, also known as Troy, for the manslaughter of Ugandan music star Moses Ssekibogo, widely known as Mowzey Radio.

A panel comprising Justices Christopher Gashirabake, Dr. Asa Mugenyi, and John Mike Musisi unanimously rejected Wamala’s appeal, ruling that the trial court had correctly assessed the evidence leading to his conviction.

Wamala had contested both the conviction and the length of the sentence, claiming inconsistencies in the prosecution’s case and arguing that the original 14-year term—later reduced for time spent in remand was too severe.

However, the appellate court found the evidence against him to be strong and reliable.

The case stems from a bar fight on January 22, 2018, at De Bar in Entebbe, during which Wamala violently slammed Mowzey Radio to the ground, causing fatal head injuries. The singer died a few days later at Case Clinic in Kampala.

In their ruling, the justices highlighted the consistent and credible testimony of key witnesses, including Pamela Musimire and music producer David Otim, also known as Washington, who identified Wamala as the attacker.

With the appeal dismissed, Wamala will serve out the remainder of his sentence.
